Mumbai: In a city that thrives on unity in diversity, Shri Omkareshwar Sai Mandir at Shivaji Nagar, Chhatrapati Shivaji Road, Dahisar (East), stands as a shining example of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood for the last 32 years.
The foundation stone of this temple was laid in 1998 by noted film activist and social worker Mr. Ashfaque Khopekar on his own land, at the request of his late friend Shri Manohar Swami. Shri Swami managed the temple in its initial years. After his untimely demise, Mr. Khopekar took over the complete responsibility.
What makes this temple unique is that for the last 32 years, not a single rupee of donation has been taken from anyone. The entire maintenance, care and renovation – which has been done two to three times – is borne personally by Mr. Ashfaque Khopekar.
The temple houses a sacred Shivling along with duly consecrated idols of Sai Baba, Lord Hanuman (Sankatmochan), Goddess Durga, Shitla Mata and Lord Ganesha.
Every year on the occasion of Maha Shivratri, the temple organizes a grand two-day Shiv-Sai Mahabhandara, Satyanarayan Mahapuja and cultural programs. The entire locality, both Hindus and Muslims, celebrate this festival together with great enthusiasm and devotion – a tradition that has continued uninterrupted for 32 years.
The entire management of the temple is looked after by the Khopekar Education & Welfare Trust. Mr. Khopekar personally supervises all activities. Interestingly, the same Trust also runs “Madrasa Jamiatul Azhar” in Borivali, near Dahisar, where around 50 orphan and underprivileged children are provided education, food and shelter – a true reflection of the Trust’s secular spirit.
Mr. Ashfaque Khopekar is a prominent name in the Indian film industry. He is the President of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation Awards and President of the Screen Writers Guild of India. In 2024, he was honoured with the Bollywood Best Activist Award by the then Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra and now Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan.
The temple’s programs have been graced by eminent personalities from the film industry like Sudesh Berry, Charlie, Zakir Khan and from the political arena like Shri Vinod Ghosalkar, Late Shri Abhishek Ghosalkar, Ms. Tejaswi Ghosalkar, Smt. Manisha Tai Chaudhari, Shri Piyush Goyal and many others, witnessing the true spirit of Hindu-Muslim unity.
The temple has also been blessed by the presence of great saints from India and abroad, including Pilot Baba, K.K. Aikawa Mata (Japan), Mahamandaleshwar Sanjay Giri, Swarganand Maharaj, Rameshanand Giri and many other revered saints.

A 32-Year-Old Symbol Of Hindu-Muslim Unity In The Heart Of Mumbai – Shri Omkareshwar Sai Mandir, Dahisar
Exclusive Story By RAJA SARFARAZ Srinagar/Mumbai
Subeena Subhan, a fashion designer and female entrepreneur from Srinagar, is building a clothing brand that celebrates Kashmiri craftsmanship, contemporary elegance, and the individuality of every woman.
SRINAGAR, KASHMIR: In a world where fashion trends change with every passing season, some designers choose to create something more enduring—a style rooted in identity, tradition, and timeless elegance. Among those pursuing this vision is Subeena Subhan, a female entrepreneur and fashion designer from Srinagar, who founded LABEL BY MANSHA with a mission to bring together the cultural richness of Kashmir and the evolving language of modern fashion.
For Subeena, fashion is more than clothing; it is a form of self-expression, a celebration of femininity, and a connection to one’s roots. Through LABEL BY MANSHA, she aspires to create timeless outfits that allow women to embrace their individuality while carrying the beauty of their cultural heritage with confidence.
WHERE KASHMIRI HERITAGE MEETS CONTEMPORARY ELEGANCE
Kashmir has long been celebrated for its exquisite craftsmanship, intricate embroidery, and distinctive textile traditions. Recognising the value of this artistic legacy, Subeena believes that traditional craftsmanship deserves not only appreciation but also a meaningful place in contemporary fashion.
One of the important elements of this vision is the preservation of traditional Kashmiri embroidery, particularly Tilla work, known for its intricate detailing and graceful appeal. By incorporating traditional influences into modern designs, LABEL BY MANSHA seeks to keep Kashmir’s artistic heritage relevant to a new generation of fashion-conscious women.
The brand’s philosophy reflects a simple yet powerful idea: tradition does not have to remain confined to the past. With thoughtful design and creative interpretation, it can become an essential part of the future.
A JOURNEY OF PASSION, PERSEVERANCE AND PURPOSE
The journey of LABEL BY MANSHA began with Subeena’s passion for fashion, creativity, and her desire to make every woman feel beautiful and confident. What began as a personal vision has become an entrepreneurial pursuit centred on individuality, cultural identity, and the enduring appeal of thoughtfully designed clothing.
Like many women building their own ventures, Subeena’s journey has involved learning, challenges, and personal growth. Establishing a business in a competitive fashion industry requires determination, consistency, and the courage to turn creative ideas into a professional identity.
For her, one of the significant challenges has been breaking stereotypes and demonstrating that women can build and lead successful businesses in fashion and entrepreneurship.
Yet, she views these challenges as opportunities to learn, evolve, and strengthen her vision. Her journey represents the aspirations of women who are determined to pursue their ambitions while creating opportunities through their talent and creativity.
EMPOWERING WOMEN THROUGH FASHION
At the heart of LABEL BY MANSHA lies the belief that every woman deserves to feel confident in her own identity. The brand’s vision goes beyond changing trends, placing emphasis on individuality, cultural connection, and timeless style.
Subeena hopes to encourage women to embrace their uniqueness rather than simply follow fashion trends. Through her work, she seeks to celebrate the diversity of women’s identities while presenting Kashmiri design traditions in a way that resonates with contemporary tastes.
Her entrepreneurial journey also carries a message for aspiring young designers, particularly girls who dream of entering the fashion industry but may hesitate because of social expectations or uncertainty about the future.
Her advice is straightforward: believe in yourself, trust your creativity, and never be afraid to pursue your dreams.
A MESSAGE TO THE NEXT GENERATION
Sharing her message for aspiring fashion designers, Subeena Subhan emphasises the importance of self-belief, originality, and cultural pride.
“Believe in yourself, trust your creativity, and embrace your roots while bringing your own unique vision to the fashion world,” is the essence of her message to young girls who aspire to make their mark in fashion.
Her words reflect a broader vision in which young designers can draw inspiration from their heritage without limiting their imagination. For Subeena, cultural identity and contemporary creativity are not opposing forces; they can complement one another to produce something distinctive and meaningful.
THE VISION AHEAD
With LABEL BY MANSHA, Subeena Subhan is working towards a fashion identity that brings together the elegance of Kashmir’s cultural heritage and the aspirations of modern women.
Her journey highlights the importance of preserving traditional craftsmanship while creating space for fresh ideas, contemporary aesthetics, and women-led entrepreneurship.
As Kashmir’s creative landscape continues to inspire designers and entrepreneurs, stories like Subeena’s reflect the potential of local talent to build distinctive brands grounded in regional identity.
For LABEL BY MANSHA, the vision is clear: to celebrate the beauty of Kashmiri craftsmanship, honour the traditions that inspire it, and create fashion that allows every woman to wear her confidence with pride.
Because true style is not merely about what a woman wears—it is about the heritage she carries, the confidence she expresses, and the identity she chooses to celebrate.
