A Legacy Of Excellence: SPM College Celebrates 57 Years Of Empowering Women In Education

Shyama Prasad Mukherji College for Women, University of Delhi, celebrated its 57th Annual Day in a dignified and vibrant ceremony at the College Auditorium. The occasion also marked the formal commencement of the 125th Birth Anniversary year of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherji, paying homage to his enduring legacy in the fields of education and nation-building.

The programme was graced by the Chief Guest, Shri Vijender Gupta, Hon’ble Speaker, Delhi Legislative Assembly. The Guests of Honour included Smt. Lakshmi Murdeshwar Puri, Former Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Shri Alok Dimri, Additional Secretary & National Coordinator (SCO), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. The ceremony was presided over by the Principal, Prof. Neelam Goyal, in the august presence of Prof. Sudeshna Mazumdar, Chairperson, Governing Body; Prof. Pamela Singla, Treasurer; and Prof. Manjula Grover, Convenor, Annual Day.

The celebration commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, Saraswati Vandana and the rendition of Vande Mataram. The logo commemorating the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherji was formally unveiled. The cultural segment showcased India’s classical and folk traditions through a thematic dance presentation “Panchatatva,” a classical choral rendition based on Raag Megh, Bahar and Basant, a Sitar ensemble, and a vibrant Gidda performance.

Presenting the Annual Report, Principal Prof. Neelam Goyal highlighted the College’s academic accomplishments, research initiatives, student achievements and its sustained commitment to women’s empowerment and holistic education.

In his address, Shri Vijender Gupta underscored the transformative role of education in nurturing democratic values and responsible citizenship. A documentary commemorating 100 years of the Delhi Legislative Assembly was screened during the function, and a centenary Coffee Table Book was presented to the College. Smt. Lakshmi Murdeshwar Puri spoke on women’s leadership in a global context, while Shri Alok Dimri emphasized the significance of global awareness in contemporary times.

The programme concluded with the felicitation of meritorious students and long-serving teaching and non-teaching staff, followed by the National Anthem. Prof. Manjula Grover, Convenor, Annual Day, proposed the Vote of Thanks. The celebration was widely appreciated as a grand success.

कार्यक्रम को संबोधित करते हुए कंपनी की प्रबंध निदेशक (MD) प्रियंका सिंह ने कहा कि डेलिया का उद्देश्य गुणवत्ता, शुद्धता और भरोसे के साथ उपभोक्ताओं तक सुरक्षित पेयजल पहुँचाना है। उन्होंने बताया कि कंपनी आधुनिक तकनीक और सख्त गुणवत्ता मानकों के तहत उत्पाद तैयार कर रही है।

कार्यक्रम के मुख्य अतिथि जदयू दिल्ली प्रदेश अध्यक्ष शैलेंद्र कुमार ने अपने संबोधन में कहा कि स्वच्छ और सुरक्षित पेयजल हर नागरिक की प्राथमिक आवश्यकता है। डेलिया इंडस्ट्रीज की यह पहल न केवल गुणवत्तापूर्ण उत्पाद उपलब्ध कराएगी, बल्कि स्थानीय स्तर पर रोजगार और व्यापारिक अवसरों को भी बढ़ावा देगी।

Arham Khan – Grandson Disciple of Sarangi Samrat Ustad Sabri Khansahb

Arham Khan is a promising young Sarangi Player carrying forward one of the most revered legacies in Indian classical music.

He is the grandson of the legendary Sarangi Samrat Ustad Sabri Khan Sahib, a towering figure who took the sarangi to the global stage and transformed its presence in both classical and world music.

Born into the prestigious Moradabad Gharana, Arham represents the newest generation of a lineage that has preserved and enriched the sarangi tradition for over four centuries.

Arham Khan is the son of Ustad Ayyub Khan, himself a dedicated Sarangi Player, and the nephew of Sarangi Sultan Ustad Kamal Sabri, an internationally acclaimed maestro known for his innovative approach, global collaborations, and deep commitment to keeping the sarangi relevant in contemporary musical discourse.
